The Porsche 992 Facelift, or Porsche 992.2, was unveiled on May 28, 2024, marking a major shift in the evolution of the 911 series. This facelift introduces hybrid technology for the first time in the Porsche 992 Carrera GTS, setting the stage for the future of performance cars. While the base Porsche 992 Carrera retains its signature 3.0-liter biturbo engine without hybrid assistance, the GTS features a newly developed “T-Hybrid” drivetrain with a 3.6-liter engine and electric turbo.
Porsche 992 Carrera – Power and Design
The Porsche 992 Carrera benefits from a minor update, receiving a biturbo six-cylinder boxer engine that now delivers 394 hp. This upgrade, featuring parts from the Porsche 992 Facelift Turbo models and pre-facelift GTS, provides a more responsive performance without adding hybrid elements. In its base version, the Carrera is only available with rear-wheel drive, and it’s still uncertain whether all-wheel drive will be introduced for this model in the future.
Porsche 992.2 Carrera GTS – Hybrid Powertrain
The star of the Porsche 992 2025 lineup is the Porsche 992.2 Carrera GTS, which introduces a hybrid powertrain with a 3.6-liter engine, delivering a total of 541 hp. This hybrid system, known as "T-Hybrid," uses an electric turbocharger and an electric motor integrated into the PDK transmission. This innovative setup enhances torque and reduces turbo lag, bringing a 61 hp boost over its predecessor. However, this is not a traditional hybrid system, as the GTS cannot operate on electric power alone.
Carbon and Weight Reduction in the Porsche 992.2
The Porsche 992 Facelift Carbon enhancements play a key role in optimizing performance, particularly in the GTS model. The optional M Carbon package adds carbon-fiber components to elements such as the air intakes, mirror caps, and rear spoiler, reducing the overall weight and improving aerodynamics. Despite the hybrid system, Porsche managed to keep the weight increase minimal, with just 50 kg added due to the battery and electric motor.
Visual and Technological Updates in the Porsche 992 Facelift
The exterior changes in the Porsche 992.2 are subtle but impactful. At the rear, the GTS now features centrally located exhaust pipes and an enhanced diffuser. The front bumper now omits lights, integrating all lighting functions into the Matrix LED headlights. The interior of the Porsche 992.2 sees the removal of the analog rev counter, replaced with a digital display, while keeping key physical controls for convenience.
Porsche 992.2 Information – Availability and Pricing
The Porsche 992 Facelift models are now available for order. The Porsche 992 Carrera starts at 128,700 euros, and the Porsche 992.2 Carrera GTS begins at 170,600 euros. The GTS comes with a range of optional packages, including the Porsche 992 Facelift Carbon package for those seeking lightweight performance upgrades.
Deliveries for the Carrera begin in late summer 2024, while the GTS will reach dealerships by the end of the year.
